Institute Under 17’s progressed to the semi finals of the Northern Ireland Boys FA Cup for the first time in the clubs history on Saturday with a hard fought 1-0 victory over St Patricks Belfast. In a game that could have gone either way and saw no fewer than three goals disallowed, St Patricks set a blistering pace to the game from the start and created several chances before the young Stute side were allowed to settle. However the chances started to come for the home side with left winger Chris Beattie in particular causing problems. The home side thought they had taken the lead in the soon after only for Stephen O’ Donnell’s strike to be ruled offside by the referee. Despite that setback, Stute began to have more of a say on the game in the second half with striker Colin Murray in particular finding a lot of joy and having no less than three chances cleared of the St Patricks line.
Stevie Nicholl’s team however broke the deadlock 15 minutes into the second half after a fine run and cross from Chris Beattie found substitute Conor Kelpie who made no mistake, firing his shot into the back of the net. The visitors however refused to surrender the tie and had a goal of their own disallowed shortly after Kelpie’s opener. The third and final disallowed goal of the game came via Beattie who controlled a clearance by the St Patricks keeper before scoring and then being pulled back by the referee for hand ball. All in all the young Drumahoe side deserved the victory and earned their place in the Semi Final.
Elsewhere the Academy and Mini Soccer Centre had no fewer than eight teams playing from ages 6 to 17. The Under 11’s drew 2-2 with Sion Swifts, Lee Olphert made it 13 goals in 4 games as the Under 14’s enjoyed an 11-0 away victory at Glebeside and the Under 16’s are into the Final of the North West Cup after a 2-1 victory over Culmore.

Institute Under 14’s consolidated second place in the MIM Coleraine and District Youth League on Saturday with a comfortable 5-0 victory over Draperstown Youth at Drumahoe. Striker Lee Olphert again making the headlines with his third hat trick in as many games.
Stute could not have wished for a better start, taking the lead in the third minute when an Andrew Pierce corner was flicked on by Matthew Pierce for midfielder Nicky Morton to head the home side into the lead from 6 yards. That lead was doubled in 14th minute when Lee Olphert made a fantastic run from midfield, beating the Draperstown defenders before his shot was well saved by the visiting keeper. Unfortunately for him his save only landed at the feet of Matthew Pierce who made no mistake with the rebound. The young Drumahoe side continued to dominate the game and scored a deserved third when winger Aaron Tarr played a superb through ball to striker Olphert who raced clear before slotting the ball under the advancing keeper.
Into the second half and Institute’s dominance continued with a further two goals to follow from Lee Olphert. Firstly in 32nd minute Matthew Pierce had a superb run and shot saved by the Draperstown keeper but on form Olphert was in the right place at the right time to slot the ball past a despairing defender for his second of the game. The front two of Pierce and Olphert again combined with 10 minutes remaining with Pierce unselfishly squaring the ball to Olphert when he could easily have shot himself. Lee Olphert smashed the ball home for his hat trick to seal an impressive victory as well as a super performance for Institute Under 14’s. Institute Under 11’s were also victorious on Saturday recording a 5-3 victory over Culmore.

Institute Under 16’s secured their place in the Quarter Finals of the Northern Ireland Boys FA Cup on Saturday with a penalty shoot out victory over an impressive Ballynure FC at The Riverside Stadium.
The game itself saw both teams cancel each other out early on however Stute were first to break the deadlock after 15 minutes when Conor McDermott was brought down in the visitors box to win a penalty for the home team. Striker Conor Kane made no mistake from the spot, slamming the ball straight down the middle of the net to give Stute the advantage of which they held onto until half time.
Ballynure started the 2nd half with real purpose and two quick goals saw the game turned on its head and the advantage switch to the visitors. Firstly the Institute back four were caught square allowing the Ballynure striker to slot the ball under the advancing Adam Taylor to equalise and before Institute could compose themselves again it was 2-1 to the visitors from
Credit however must go to the young Drumahoe side after those set backs and they slowly began to dictate the tempo of the game, creating numerous chances albeit failing to capitalise on them. In the dying seconds Stute were camped in Ballynure’s 18 yard box and from a resulting corner kick, with every Stute player including keeper Taylor in the box, defender Zach Hamilton took full advantage of a goalmouth scramble to bundle the ball over the line to take the game to extra time. As Stute celebrated their unlikely equaliser Ballynure’s remonstrations saw them reduced to 10 men going into extra time.
Institute took advantage of the sending off and dominated extra time however failing to turn that advantage into goals and the game was forced to go to penalties. The young Stute side held their nerve in the shootout to win the tie with Taylor in goal making two excellent saves while Dillon Rutherford, Conor Kane, Dylan Coyle and match winner Aaron McCormick converted their penalties to see Stute progress into the quarter finals of the Northern Ireland Boys FA Cup.
Institute: Adam Taylor, Darren Brown, Jordan Watson, Dylan Rutherford, Matthew McKeegan, Dean Curry, Ryan Hornby, Dylan Coyle, Connor McDermott, Matthew Brace, Conor Kane, Corey Wilson, Aaron McCormack, Leonard Quinn, Zach Hamilton and Steven Owens.

Institute Under 14’s continued their recent return to form with an emphatic 6-2 victory over Moyola Park on Saturday. Things however didn’t get off to the best of starts when the visitors made the most of a mistake on the Stute right in the first minute to open the scoring from close range. Despite that early set back however Stute began to assert themselves in the game and got their just rewards in the 8th minute when great work by Jordan Warnock, Nicky Morton and Lee Olphert saw them combine brilliantly before the latter slid the ball under the advancing keeper. Stute continued to dominate after their opener and took the lead in 14th minute when right winger Warnock superbly cut inside with his right foot before finishing from outside the box with his left. The home side continued to play their usual passing football and scored again just before half time when an Aaron Tarr cross from the left was clinically finished by Lee Olphert. Five minutes into the 2nd half and the game was beyond the visitors when a training ground set piece worked a treat from an Andrew Pierce corner which found his cousin Matthew. His flick was well finished by midfielder Nicky Morton who deservedly got on the score sheet. Institute made it five with 14 minutes to go when Aaron Tarr chipped the visiting keeper before Moyola pulled one back with 10 minutes to go after a goal mouth scramble was well finished by the visiting striker. Not to be undone however, Lee Olphert made it a second hat trick in two games with 5 minutes remaining when he was quickest to react to a Kaelan Kincaid shot to fire into the roof of the net and seal a well deserved victory for the Under 14’s.
Well Done once again lads, everything we are working on in training is being put into practice on match day and most importantly of all there are smiles on faces and we are enjoying our football. Keep it up!!!

Four Star Stute into Next Round of North-West Cup.
Institute Under 16s progressed into the semi final of the North-West & Coleraine District Youth League Cup with a convincing 4-1 victory away to Donemana on Saturday.
Institute started off very lively and had several early chances, but their strike force were off target on a number of occasions. Donemana keeper Jack Glenn was also in fine form pulling off a number of fine saves to deny Conor Kane and Matthew Mc Keegan amongst others.
10 minutes before the break a piece of hesitant defending gave Donemana the break they were pushing for and from the resultant corner kick, the out swinging delivery was sweetly met just inside the 18 yard box by Alan Johnston whose sweet shot gave Stute keeper Corey Wilson no chance.
To their credit Stute began the second half with a bit more purpose, playing against the breeze which held the ball up well for the forward line. The central midfield duo of Conor Mc Dermott and Dylan Coyle done a magnificent job commanding the centre of the park and threading some great balls threw to the forwards. This superiority was soon rewarded with Conor Kane getting his name on the score sheet and soon after adding a further 2 to notch up his hatrick.
Institute wingers Dean Curry and Matthew Brace were both very lively on the on the day causing Donemana all sorts of problems.
20 minutes from time substitute Ryan Hornby didn’t waste anytime in adding another goal to make it 4-1 to the visitors and make the game safe.
The defence of Darren Brown, Jordan Watson and Kyle Mc Intosh held up well, being ably marshalled by the excellent Dylan Rutherford who didn’t put a foot wrong through out the entire game.
Team; Corey Wilson, Darren Brown, Jordan Watson, Dylan Rutherford, Kyle Mc Intosh ,Matthew Brace ,Dylan Coyle, Conor Mc Dermott, Dean Curry, Conor Kane (Capt),Matthew McKeegan, Zach Hamilton, Aaron McCormack, Leonard Quinn, Ryan Hornby, Adam Taylor.
